Bistritsa Monastery St. Petka



It was founded in the 10th century. In the 14th century it was destroyed by the Turks and a small church was built, dug into the ground. After the Liberation another small church was built, which existed till 1951. In 1956 the present church was built. Nowadays the monastery is functions regularly. It consists of the church "St.Iliya"- one-nef, one-apse, without a cupola and with a narthex (and a bell tower above it), residential and farm buildings.

Women's, Patron Saint's day on 14 October.


Location

The Bistritsa monastery "St. Petka" is located in the Kalugerovi livadi country in the Vitosha mountain, at the north-western end of the Bistritsa residential district, Sofia.

The distance from the monastery to the center of Sofia is 16,5 km.
